Biozith 250 (Azithromycin Tablets l.p 250 mg) works by binding to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacterial ribosomes, which inhibits protein synthesis. This action prevents bacteria from producing essential proteins needed for their growth and replication, effectively stopping the spread of the bacterial infection and allowing the body’s immune system to eliminate the remaining bacteria.
Biozith 250 (Clarithromycin 250 mg) is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections, including:
- Respiratory Tract Infections: Pneumonia, bronchitis
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections
- Sinusitis
- Pharyngitis and Tonsillitis
- Otitis Media (Middle Ear Infections)
- Helicobacter pylori Infections: Used in combination with other medications for treating certain stomach ulcers
- Adults: Typically, 250 mg every 12 hours. Dosage may be adjusted based on the severity of the infection.
- Children: Dosage based on body weight as prescribed by a physician.
- Administration: Take orally with or without food. Swallow whole, do not crush or chew.
- Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, taste changes
- Serious: Allergic reactions, liver problems, hearing loss, severe gastrointestinal issues
- Allergy to Clarithromycin or other macrolides
- Concurrent use with cisapride, pimozide, astemizole, terfenadine, ergotamine, dihydroergotamine, lovastatin, or simvastatin
- History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction due to Clarithromycin
- Severe liver disease
- History of QT prolongation or ventricular arrhythmia
- Concurrent use with colchicine in patients with renal or hepatic impairment
